Steel River Blues (ITV)

Joanne played 'Nicky Higgins', a fire-fighter in the ITV drama ‘STEEL RIVER BLUES', which was screened in 2004.

Nicky Higgins is a very direct character and she doesn’t any rubbish from the male fire-fighters. She’s very sure of herself and when she arrives halfway through the series it’s clear she is there to make her presence felt. The men are expecting a new driver and assume it’ll be a 'he'. When Nicky appears they get the wind knocked out of their sails a bit!

Joanne's favourite moment in the series was absailing down 70 foot from a viaduct. "We spent about three or four days hanging off the edge of it, it was great.’’ explains Joanne

“Fire fighters have to be completely fearless and they need to depend on each other in the most incredible way. It’s a real team effort that gets them through it.’’

Holby City (BBC 1)

In this piece, Jo plays Alison Johnston, owner of a Dye Manufacturing Company with her father.

She is dating one of her staff, Jack, but it seems the chemicals he has been working with are not strictly within EU regulations. Now that he has become very ill, Angela has to face the fact that she may be responsible for Jack's terminal cancer.

Although not a particularly happy story, Jo thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of such a dramatic storyline.

Dream Team (Sky 1)

Joanne plays Sky News Reporter, Yvonne Allerand, who is caught in a love triangle with the manager of the Harchester United Football Team, Alan Rothman, and his secretary Jennifer Taylor. Yvonne and Alan become engaged.

The role of Alan is played by Glen Murphy, who Joanne worked with previously on London's Burning.

Cold Feet (ITV)

Joanne was thrilled to be part of this series, having been a fan since it first started. Here she plays Angela, colleague and replacement for Rachel (Helen Baxendale) in her position at the advertising agency, whilst Rachel was on maternity leave. Angela was not too happy at giving the job back!

Combat Sheep (BBC 2)

This clever production from Steve Coogan's television company involved acting with puppets, sheep in fact - a first time for Joanne! It was a chance to play several comedy characters in cameo roles. Joanne found the sheep to be so life-like that she would forget that they weren't real!

Barbara (ITV)

This was a fun role for Joanne, playing a crazy girl with an exceptionally dirty home! (Not at all like her own she is quick to add!) It was also enjoyable to be filming with the team at Carlton, Nottingham, where she spent her time on Crossroads.

Crossroads (ITV)

This is the role for which Joanne is best known.  She joined the brand new Crossroads as Sarah-Jane Harvey, the daughter of Jill Harvey and grand-daughter of Meg Mortimer.

Having vaguely remembered the programme when it was originally shown (more the theme tune actually), Joanne was very excited to be part of the new re-vamped show.  This was Joanne's first experience of Soap Opera which she found to be enormous fun, very challenging and lots of good hard work.  Story lines as Sarah-Jane took her through finding her mother from whom she had been separated for years, fights with old favourite Adam Chance, being accused of her mother's murder, becoming joint shareholder of Crossroads Hotel, feuds with the Russell family, an affair with married man Jake Booth, and engagement to his younger half brother Mark.

In true soap style, a twist to the storyline revealed that Sarah-Jane was not who she claimed to be. She was actually an impostor by the name of Louise Dixon, friend of the original Sarah-Jane.  This led to the character's grand exit dressed in a wedding dress, leaving her fiancé standing at the altar, and with a £100,000 bribe in her bank account courtesy of his half brother, her ex lover.

It's not surprising that this behaviour led to a nomination for Inside Soap's 'Best Bitch' award!

Joanne's final episode was nominated for 'Best Episode' at the National Soap Awards in 2002, where she was also Crossroads' candidate in the 'Sexiest Female' category.

Waking the Dead (BBC 1)

As Sgt Debbie Britton, Joanne spent four hours in make-up one morning, in order to create the look of a body which had been wrapped and submerged in water for a year! Unfortunately, the character had been stalked and murdered as is discovered through a series of flashbacks, with some excellent twists and turns to the plot.

London's Burning (ITV)

With a little confusion at the station, Control Operator, Donna, is mistaken for the new recruit at Blue Watch rather than a hot date for one of the firemen! This was the first time Joanne worked at Three Mills Studios in East London, where she would return at a later date to film on Dream Team.

Doctors (BBC 1)

Joanne found this role to be great fun - pointing out all her imperfections as Donna was requesting plastic surgery! This scheming character stood her in good stead for creating the role of Sarah-Jane Harvey in Crossroads.

Boyz Unlimited (Channel 4)

At the start of the boy-band craze, this spoof documentary followed a make believe band 'Boyz Unlimited' through their rise to fame.  Jenny was there to report on their antics.

Loved by You (ITV)

This popular sitcom starring John Gordon Sinclair was based on the American show 'Mad About You'. So it was fitting that Joanne's character Lisa was based on the role played by Lisa Cudrow (Friends) in the original version.

Hospital! (Channel 5)

This was the first programme to be transmitted at the opening of Channel 5, Easter 1997. The film, based around the style of 'Airplane', contained many celebrity cameos. This hilarious comedy starred Greg Wise and Celia Imrie, and included guest appearances by Julian Clary, Martin Clunes, Clive Anderson and Caprice.   Joanne played naughty Nurse Ursula who behaved like someone out of a 'Carry On' movie!

Bring Me the Head of Mavis Davis (National Cinema)

Staring Rik Mayall and Jane Horrocks, this British movie directed by John Henderson saw Joanne's character Kirsty, flattened by an exploding balcony as she became yet another victim of a hopeless assassin's blunders. It was a scary experience, standing in the middle of a car park on a cold and windy night, looking upwards to see a crane drop a camera from above, in order to recreate the effect of falling debris. And who said Show Business was glamorous?!
